After a friend alerted me to this rather petty example of reverse snobbery I felt compelled to issue a considered knee-jerk response (hey, somebody has to stick up for The Greatest City In The World™). Reaction to this poster was surprisingly passionate — little did I know that my good-natured swipe at hipsterdom and its appropriation of Brooklyn (both the place and the word itself) would provoke what the media dubbed a “Borough War”. Upon hearing some of the angrier comments I began to feel some remorse for creating this poster at all — the last thing I wished to do was offend anyone (least of all Oregon). Thankfully the frenzy subsided almost as quickly as it had started, and last I heard Manhattanites and Brooklynites remain on speaking terms.
