Sketchbooks at the Library

scripts_heller blog

Last night I went to the New York Public Library on Fifth Avenue for a talk hosted by Stephen Heller and Lita Talarico to coincide with the release of their latest book, Typography Sketchbooks. Published by Thames & Hudson, this latest collection is a sneak peak into the working methods of several contemporary designers. Four of these — Travis Cain, Matt Luckhurst, Viktor Koen and Esther K. Smith — were in attendance to speak in turn about their work. An artist’s sketchbook is quite private, so it was interesting to see these designers discuss their own doodles and discarded ideas. Afterwards Heller stuck around to sign copies of the book. I didn’t buy Typography Sketchbooks but he was gracious enough to sign another of his recent publications, Scripts, co-curated with Louise Fili.

Check out Stephen Heller’s other books here.
